constantly. Currently, the hip hop playlist for Seattle is: Macklemore, Macklemore, Macklemore, Drake, and Jay Z(Holy Grail). Someone can tell me otherwise...don't worry, I'll wait!
I understand that the basis of everything nowadays is money and stations need to play what is popular, but how can people be interested in listening to hip hop when no one gets exposure to it? Like the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind...
It's easy for a listener like me to complain and not understand all the logistics behind running a successful station, but my question is, "Is anyone fighting to keep hip hop music on the air? Consistently?" Are there still music directors in Seattle that want to focus their content on hip hop/rnb? I can't even distinguish radio stations out here from one another any more cause they all play the same music.
Hip hop isn't just Macklemore, Drake and Jay Z. They are great representations of it's success, but there are so many other talented artists showcasing different styles and interpretations of the culture that get no mention in Seattle. What makes me sad is that a station like KUBE 93 with such a great platform to expose hip hop, isn't any more.
I guess this is an example of times changing and another reminder to myself how hard you have to fight for hip hop in Seattle...

SNSS for the providing Seattle with the only block of hip hop (real good hip hop) on the radio even if it's only for 1 hour and 45 minutes while everyone is sleeping.
